## Differential Air Pressure Sensor ±7 kPa

ID: 1137_0
Recommended for new designs: This product (or a similar replacement with a compatible form, fit and function) is estimated to be available for ten years or more.

This differential air pressure sensor plugs into an Analog Input or VINT Hub port and measures pressure from -7 kPa to 7 kPa.

## $32.00 Quantity Available: 469 Qty Price 5$30.40

The 1137 Differential Pressure Sensor is a dual ported air pressure sensor that measures the pressure difference between the two ports. It can measure both positive and negative pressure from –7 kPa to +7 kPa.

#### Warning

This sensor is designed to measure the pressure of clean, non-condensing air. Contact with moist air (i.e, human breath), dusty air, or other gases can damage the sensor.

#### Interface Boards and Hubs

This sensor can be read by any Phidget with an Analog Input or VINT Hub port. It will connect to either one using the included Phidget cable. VINT Hub ports can behave just like Analog Inputs, but have the added flexibility of being able to be used as digital inputs, digital outputs, or ports to communicate with VINT devices. For more information about VINT, see the VINT Primer.

#### Phidget Cables

This sensor comes with its own Phidget cable to connect it to an InterfaceKit or Hub, but if you need extras we have a full list down below. You can solder multiple cables together in order to make even longer Phidget cables, but you should be aware of the effects of having long wires in your system.

Connect the 1137 to the HUB0000 with the Phidget cable. 2. Connect the HUB0000 to your computer with the USB cable. Now that you have everything together, let's start using the 1137! ## Using the 1137 ### Phidget Control Panel In order to demonstrate the functionality of the 1137, we will connect it to the HUB0000, and then run an example using the Phidget Control Panel on a Windows machine. The Phidget Control Panel is available for use on both macOS and Windows machines. If you would like to follow along, first take a look at the getting started guide for your operating system: Linux users can follow the getting started with Linux guide and continue reading here for more information about the 1137. ### First Look After plugging in the 1137 into the HUB0000, and the HUB0000 into your computer, open the Phidget Control Panel. You will see something like this: The Phidget Control Panel will list all connected Phidgets and associated objects, as well as the following information: • Serial number: allows you to differentiate between similar Phidgets. • Channel: allows you to differentiate between similar objects on a Phidget. • Version number: corresponds to the firmware version your Phidget is running. If your Phidget is listed in red, your firmware is out of date. Update the firmware by double-clicking the entry. The Phidget Control Panel can also be used to test your device. Double-clicking on an object will open an example. ### Voltage Ratio Input Double-click on a Voltage Ratio Input object in order to run the example: General information about the selected object will be displayed at the top of the window. You can also experiment with the following functionality: • Modify the change trigger and/or data interval value by dragging the sliders. For more information on these settings, see the data interval/change trigger page. • Select the 1137 from the Sensor Type drop-down menu. The example will now convert the voltage into pressure (kPa) automatically. Converting the voltage to pressure (kPa) is not specific to this example, it is handled by the Phidget libraries, with functions you have access to when you begin developing! ## Technical Details ### General The 1137 uses bipolar processing to provide an accurate, high level analog input signal that is proportional to the applied pressure. When the sensor is plugged in, the sensor voltage should default to about 2.5V, which corresponds to 0 kPa between the two ports. ### Ports The sensor comes with a positive top port and a negative bottom port. These ports have a diameter of 2.79mm to 3.30 mm (nominal 3mm). For hosing, we recommend using polyurethane tubing. We have had good results with 2.4mm ID tubing from EMI. In imperial measurement, 3/32” ID tubing is equivalent. This is available through laboratory supply stores such as Cole Parmer. ### Formulas The Phidget libraries can automatically convert sensor voltage into pressure (kPa) by selecting the appropriate SensorType. See the Phidget22 API for more details. The Formula to translate voltage ratio into pressure is: ${\displaystyle {\text{Pressure (kPa)}}=({\text{VoltageRatio}}\times 17.5)-8.75}$ ${\displaystyle {\text{Pressure (psi)}}=({\text{VoltageRatio}}\times 2.538)-1.269}$ Note: 1.0 kPa = 0.145 psi ### Phidget Cable The Phidget Cable is a 3-pin, 0.100 inch pitch locking connector. Pictured here is a plug with the connections labelled. The connectors are commonly available - refer to the Analog Input Primer for manufacturer part numbers. ## What to do Next • Programming Languages - Find your preferred programming language here and learn how to write your own code with Phidgets! • Phidget Programming Basics - Once you have set up Phidgets to work with your programming environment, we recommend you read our page on to learn the fundamentals of programming with Phidgets. This device doesn't have an API of its own. It is controlled by opening a VoltageRatioInput channel on the Phidget that it's connected to. For a list of compatible Phidgets with VoltageRatio Inputs, see the Connection & Compatibility tab. You can find details for the VoltageRatioInput API on the API tab for the Phidget that this sensor connects to. #### Product Specifications Sensor Properties Sensor Type Gas Pressure (Differential) Controlled By VoltageRatio Input Sensor Output Type Ratiometric Pressure Differential Min -7 kPa Pressure Differential Max 7 kPa Case Pressure Max 75 kPa Pressure Resolution 17 Pa Measurement Error Max ± 5 % Warm-up Time 20 ms Response Time Max 1 ms Electrical Properties Supply Voltage Min 4.8 V DC Supply Voltage Max 5.3 V DC Current Consumption Max 10 mA Output Impedance 1 kΩ Output Voltage Min 500 mV DC Output Voltage Max 4.5 V DC Physical Properties Operating Temperature Min -40 °C Operating Temperature Max 125 °C Recommended Tubing Size 332 #### Documents #### Projects #### Product History Date Board Revision Device Version Comment Oct 2012 0 N/A Product Release #### Here's a list of our gas pressure sensors: Product Sensor Properties Image Part Number Price Sensor Type Pressure Min Pressure Max Pressure Differential Min Pressure Differential Max Pressure Resolution 1126_1$32.00 Gas Pressure (Differential) -25 kPa 25 kPa 55 Pa
