This through-beam sensor triggers when the space between the emitter and receiver is blocked by an opaque object. It can also trigger on transparent objects like water droplets as long as the infrared beam is disrupted and the sensitivity is set high.
You can adjust the sensitivity by turning the screw on the side with a flathead screwdriver.
This sensor requires a 10-30V power supply and outputs 5V when the sensor is triggered. The easiest way to use this sensor is to connect it to the Versatile Input Phidget, a device that can interface a wide variety of sensor types.

* - If you're planning on using this sensor to measure very fast-moving objects, and are using the DAQ1400 to read the sensor, you should use the FrequencyCounter channel instead of DigitalInput because the DAQ1400 may miss quick pulses on the DigitalInput channel.
