This J-type thermocouple extension wire can be purchased by the meter, allowing for additional flexibility in wiring your temperature sensing system. When you extend your thermocouple wire, be sure to hook it up with the red wire to the positive side and the purple wire to the negative. If you hook the wire up backwards, the temperature reading will be incorrect.
You should use a J-type thermocouple connector to attach this wire to your thermocouple, since the metals used in ordinary terminal blocks or solder can interfere with the thermocouple voltage by changing the junction.
Note: This wire does not come stripped- you'll need to trim back the braided shielding and strip the wires on both ends.

Thermocouples cannot easily be soldered, since adding an additional metal junction will throw off the readings. The following products will help connect or extend thermocouple wires.
Currently, we do not carry any J-type thermocouples- we carry this extension wire to support our users who already have J-type thermocouples in their installations that they want to read using Phidgets thermocouple interfaces.
