The 1204 TextLCD Adapter and the future

The 1204_0 PhidgetTextLCD Adapter is “Not Recommended for New Design,” and is described as “This product supports our Phidget21 libraries. Use as a drop-in replacement for legacy systems.” https://www.phidgets.com/?prodid=1034

So… as this seems to be the only Phidget available for support of text LCDs (3650,3652, 3653, etc.), does that mean that you will eventually be dropping Support for text LCDs altogether and we need to eventually constrain ourselves to use of the LCD1100 Graphic Phidget? Or, is there a perhaps a new (VINT?) adapter being planned.

One other comment on the same topic. The mention of Phidgets21 libraries support does allow one to infer that Phidgets22 Support might not be available, which is, of course, not the case.

For new applications we recommend using the LCD1100_1. The other products will eventually be discontinued, and there are currently no plans to develop a VINT adapter for text LCDs.

We do have new I2C/SPI adapters that can be used with a variety of displays. This project provides an example.

Thank you for the quick and thorough reply. So, I have one follow question regarding I2C. When programing for this adapter, does the LCD class no longer apply, and the I2C attached display is treated simply as a DataAdspter device with custom code to manage the display.Is that basically correct?

No problem.

That is correct. The LCD API is not relevant when using the I2C/SPI adapters.
