Tacsail and PhidgetSpatial Precision 3/3/3 MOT0110_0

Post by nssailor »

I'm a racing sailor in Nova Scotia. I'm using an older program called TacSail (perhaps originally developed in Belgium?) which I don't believe is supported anymore. It would have been actively supported up until about 2019 perhaps. I use it for data collection of the NMEA0183 stream from my sailboat instruments. The manual for the program suggests (at that time) that one can connect a pitch and heel sensor to the USB port of the windows computer (at the time) and recommends the Phidgets Labs spatial sensor. It says that it is 'fully compatible. On plugging in the sensor in a USB-port, Tacsail will automatically start collecting pitch and heel data.'
Problem is, while it is correctly identified by Windows 10 and the Phidget Control Panel works fine, TacSail doesn't seem to see the sensor. I'm assuming that the recommended Phidgets sensor was one or two generations older (link goes to one with SKU 1044). Given that I don't have access (or at least knowledge) to modify what TacSail is looking for, does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get it to recognize the information coming from the sensor version I have now? Very grateful for any help you can offer!
