mpg123 and PhidgetSBC3

Postby samuelkadolph » Wed Feb 20, 2013 11:14 pm

I've been trying to use mpg123 to play an MP3 on my PhidgetSBC3 over USB speakers (Logitech Z205). This worked fine on a PhidgetSBC2 but now it always sounds like crap. I noticed that it now says "Decoder: ARM" while playing and that seems to be the only difference between the SBC2 and SBC3's mpg123 (output wise). Using alsaplayer and it sounds normal which suggests that mpg123 is now choosing something else to play the MP3 and it's broken. Any help would be appreciated.

You can hear the problem at http://cl.ly/2F1N3Z2S0X35. Below is the output of mpg123 -v horn.mp3.

Code: Select all

High Performance MPEG 1.0/2.0/2.5 Audio Player for Layers 1, 2 and 3
version 1.14.4; written and copyright by Michael Hipp and others
free software (LGPL/GPL) without any warranty but with best wishes
Decoder: ARM

Playing MPEG stream 1 of 1: horn.mp3 ...

MPEG 2.5, Layer: III, Freq: 11025, mode: Single-Channel, modext: 0, BPF : 209
Channels: 1, copyright: No, original: Yes, CRC: No, emphasis: 0.
Bitrate: 32 kbit/s Extension value: 0
Frame#    89 [    1], Time: 00:04.64 [00:00.05], RVA:   off, Vol: 100(100)
[0:04] Decoding of horn.mp3 finished.

I found a solution last night and blogged about it. Black magic as far as I'm concerned.
