Have you read through the README in the linux library download?

Ken,

I just installed on an Ubuntu derivative. Works fine:

./configure
make
sudo make install

You might want to install the checkinstall package and instead of

sudo make install
do this instead
sudo checkinstall make install

This will go through the steps of creating a package that you can then manage like any other package instead of having some files that you later forget where they came from.

I just did that on my OpenSuse box (RPM based) but at package creation time the prompt makes it obvious that it would do the right thing on a Debian based system too.
