Adv servo controller 8 motor - mystery

Postby totaldata » Fri Jul 15, 2011 2:16 pm

I have a very big problem. I have a SBC 2 and want to use an advance servo controller 8 motor (1061) via this, but with no luck.

I first believed that the reason for my problem was missing updates, so tonight i have updated the phidget control panel, the packages in the SBC 2 and also the SBC 2 firmware, but with no luck. (by the way, you need to rename the firmware to load it into the sbc 2, an underscore must be changes to a minus sign)

The 1061 shows in the bonjour window, but when I double it, the 1061 window shows, but witout any contents in the fields (not even the attached field), and all the devices in the bonjour window disappears (and also in the Phidget status in the SBC 2). The SBC 2 even drop the USB wireless ethernet connection. A few times the 1061 connects correctly, but drop the connection within half a second. After that, a hard reset of SBC 2 is necessary.

When I use the 1061 directly attached to my PC it works perfect, and if I use other devices (1040 (GPS), 1056 (Spatial) and 1064 (HC motorcontroller)) on the SBC 2 they work without problems.

Anyone have any idea of what i should do ??

The sbc 2 have mac adr 00:1b:0b:00:0b:7b, The network connection is wired, 1061 have serial no 98543, SBC firmware and Phidget lib are built jun 15, 2011.

I think the problem looks a lot like the one HID descibed in "low level programming and port/general" may 31, 2010

You can try attaching the 1061 via a powered hub, but you will probably want to get an RMA replacement on your 1072 and/or 1061.

Hi Patrick,
Thank you for a very fast answer.

I tried to connect the 1071 and 1061 thru a power hub and that seems to do the trick.

In this configuration the 1061 window could be open from bonjour with all the fields fill-in, and it was able to start a servo motor as espected, and the SBC 2 devices did not disappear from the bonjour window.

I have mailed support with the problem, as I would love to have the device running without the powered hub

I have the same problem working with my phidgetsbc2 and the adv servo controller. I was wondering if another possible workaround was to splice the power from a second usb port from the sbc into the usb going into the adv server controller? So then two usb ports would be supplying power to the adv servo controller.

Well I gave it a try and that seemed to work. Sending commands to the adv servo controller is now stable and responding like it should.

Are you using a 1061 or a 1066?
