Drift on Phidgets Spatial 3/3/3

Postby haroldsoh » Wed Aug 04, 2010 7:32 am

Hi there,

I recently got a new fangled phidgets spatial 3/3/3 but am getting relatively noisy readings on the gyro. Interestingly, this only occurs on my linux platform (Ubuntu 10.4 32 bit). On my mac, the gyro readings appear quite stable.

As an example, when the gyro is completely stationary and using the Spatial_simple test application, I am getting angular rates (x axis) ranging from -1.69 degrees to 1.903 degrees PER data packet. Is this normal?

Would appreciate any help! Thanks!

Harold

I forgot to add that on my mac, the min and max angular rates per packet are -0.418 to 0.498 when the sensor is at rest.

Anyone have any ideas about resolving this discrepancy?

Ok - the problem seems to have resolved itself. I just tried testing the sensor again and am getting similar readings on both systems. Not sure what was the cause though.

Is it possible that you didn't zero the gyro on Linux when you ran your program?
