visual c++ express 2010 - windows forms (applications)

Postby viccos » Tue Jun 26, 2012 10:20 am

Hi there

I am trying to build an application in Visual C++ Express 2010 but using Windows Forms instead of the console application you have. I am using windows 7.

I don´t think I need a net application since I am just using the spatial 333 1056, the advanced servo controler 1061 and the PhidgetEncoder HighSpeed 1047 to control a mobile robot.

The application I want to build is a windows form with menus and submenus, where I can show the information for each sensor in different windows.

Do you have any examples of this?

Thanks a lot.

Froms based applications are much easier to write in .NET since you can use the form designer.

C# is generally much more user friendly then C++ especially for GUI applications.

Sorry I am new on this... Could you be more specific?

What softwares I need in my computer and is there any example?

So far I have been working with visual c++ express 2010 and windows forms... Should I install .net framework 4? How do I work it with C#? From visual c++ express 2010 ?

Now that Moonlight is abandoned and Mono scaled down, C# is a very simple way of giving up a whole lot of non-Windows users. For easy, platform-independent GUI applications, have a look at wxWidgets

Unless your goal it to write platform-independent code, I don't see any reason to go outside of Visual Studio and C# / VB.Net for ease of use.

Hello Patrick:

I followed your advice adn got into c#.net. I am using visual c# express 2010. I have the following remarks:

1. In the "Getting started with Phidgets in Microsoft
Visual Studio C\C++" manual says to
• Navigate to Configuration Properties | C/C++.
• Add "C:\Program Files\Phidgets" to the additional include directories field.
• Navigate to Configuration Properties | Linker | Input.
• Add "C:\Program Files\Phidgets\phidget21.lib" to the additional dependencies field.
I dont see those options in the properties of the project

2. When I was working with c++ visual c++ 2010 express I had access to those properties

3. I wat to switch from a console application to a windows form. However, in the console application the program has the
#include <stdio.h>
#include <phidget21.h>
in top of the c file.

4. How can I include the the studio.h and the phidget21.h in the windows form? WHen I tried to do that in the c++ file before, it geve me an error.

5. I want to work with c# but I wat to set it up to the windows form so I can use the functions from the phidget libraries with no problem.

Thanks in advance

Victor

You shouldn't be looking at the C/C++ documentation if you are working with C#. Read through this manual instead:

http://www.phidgets.com/documentation/T ... CSharp.pdf

That will explain how to get things set up in C# as it is different to C/C++.

Thanks Burley, this is exactly what I needed. I was looking at the wrong manual. Thanks again...
