PhidgetInterfaceKit 0/0/4 disconnects when switching

Postby severin.ch » Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:17 am

Hello
I use a PhidgetInterfaceKit 0/0/4 to turn on light bulbs (220V).
After installation I tried to switch these bulbs using the Phidget Manager.
Sometimes this works as expected. But most of time the PhidgetInterfaceKit drops connection when switching the relay and immediately reconnects.
By loosing connection all relais turns off. After reconnecting the Phidget Manager says that the relay is turned on - but it isn't...
Does anyone know the reason why the PhidgetInterfaceKit drops the connection?
Thanks a lot.

It is possible that you are using a USB cable which is too long and the switching is causing enough noise to reset the bus.

Alternatively, if you are using a USB hub it is also possible that there is enough of a voltage drop when the relay switches that the bus resets. This is more likely on cheaper hubs.

Thanks a lot. I will first try with a shorter USB cable. But as all components are located in a quite small box for me the problem with the noise sounds realistic...
Moreover, as I can remember the problem occurs when switching the 220V bulbs. When switching a 12V lamp it worked so far...
I'll also try with different voltages.
Your answer helped me a lot.
