Firmware update issues on bipolar motor controller

Post by nm17 »

Hi

I tried upgrading 2 bipolar stepper motor controllers today to firmware 102 using latest Phidgets22 control panel on windows 10. Normally this is straight forward thing to do and I have upgraded dozens of these.

However I have been repeatedly getting error upgrading firmware saying the device cannot be opened in upgrade mode and that I should reconnect device/reset etc. I tried reconnecting, resetting, removing drivers and re-imstallimg, using another/fresh PC but nothing helps.

Any suggestions what to do?

Thanks

Are they stuck in firmware upgrade mode, or working normally?

Can you make sure to connect directly to the PC, not through a USB hub?

Hi
If I re-insert USB cable they work normally. Unfortunately I can't try without USB hub at the moment.why would hub make any difference?

Any ideas what it may be?

Otherwise both controllers and few other boards work well via the same hub.

Thanks

Windows sometimes gets confused when the device reboots on a hub, although generally just unplugging and trying again works fine.

The changes in v102 are minor, and you should be fine sticking with the older version.
