Control of the WiFi adapter on SBC

Postby morgan » Sat Mar 08, 2014 3:31 pm

So I'm still waiting on my new SBC3, but still testing and learning with my old SBC board.

It seems to me that you need to pre-configure the wifi adapter, if you want to use the SBC board on a wireless network. It does not appear to be able to connect Automatically to an open network. Is that true?

Is that the same behavior as the SBC3?

Can you think of a way, maybe in software to force listing all networks, find open networks, and connect...? Does java allow for that?

Thanks in advance

You want the SBC to auto-join open networks?

You could do this, by manually adding a section to /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf:

network={
key_mgmt=NONE
}

Is there a nice way to get the wifi signal strength in java?

Also, do you know of a way to reboot the SBC3 with Java?

I'm thinking I may need to reboot the system, to force a reconnect if the wifi is down for an hour for instance...

Thanks.

Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("shutdown -r now");
