Java Library for Android OS?

Postby RobOrt » Sat Mar 05, 2011 11:42 am

I've been pondering how I can use my Android smartphone to interface with the phidgets webservice. Reading elsewhere on these forums the webservice utilises a custom protocol and it would be difficult and time consuming for me to work out what this is.

I've tried using the phidget.jar file in my Andorid build environment but it throws up a lot of errors (as I kind of expected as the Android Java Machine is a custom JVM).

Is there any chance of a java library for Android OS or even release the Java source code for the phidget libraries?

Our java library is jus a thin JNI wrapper - it requires our C library to be installed. An Android solution would require compiling our C library under the Android NDK - at this point, as long as Android supports JNI, you should be able to use phidget21.jar.

If you want to implement a pure Java phidget webservice client - have a look at the AS3.0 (Flash) library - this is quite similar to Java.
