ATX power supply ???

Postby fredericchauveau » Thu Oct 01, 2015 11:50 pm

I would like to know if it is possible to use an ATX power supply (the 12v Dc output) with a 1067 phidgets board ?
I saw that the atx power supply specifications are +12V, 22A . The phidgets power supply dc is 12v 5A...
Then, can we use an ATX power supply ?

You won't destroy it, as long as you hook up the polarity correctly. The 1067 has a 5A fuse which will blow if your motor tries to draw too much current - it doesn't matter if your power supply can provide more then 5A.

You would probably be better served by a 24-30 V power supply though - this gives you much more torque at the same current. Have a look at the stepper primer: http://www.phidgets.com/docs/Stepper_Mo ... ler_Primer
