8/8/8 IFK water sensor?

Postby JesseGoodier » Sat Nov 02, 2013 6:03 am

First post- just got my IHK yesterday and it is up and running. First program was to turn the corresponding LED on with a switch on the other side. Only needed to copy 2 lines of code to do it.

Is there a way to sense water (if my sump pump fails)? I'm thinking of just taping wire from a digital input and ground to the floor a millimeter apart.

Would that work or is there a better solution?

Thanks!
Jesse

I wouldn't rely on the conductivity of the water, and you may get debris that would get it to say it is always closed. What about a float switch?

One option I'm considering is a distance sensor, measure the distance for some period of time and make sure you have a good rain storm, and then if it goes above that level you trigger. I'm also considering something similar for the water softener tank to tell when I am out/low on salt.

Whatever you do, please post back, I am interested and others may be as well.
