1055 – PhidgetIR

Postby Kent2011 » Sat Feb 26, 2011 6:53 am

Hi

I have just purchased the ”1055 – PhidgetIR”, and I intent to use it for controlling TV, DVD and so on, and also receive signals from various remote controls.

Has anyone tried or knows if it is possible to the dismount the receiver and /or the transmitter led and move them away from the kit/PCB by externals wires. (To have the kit/PCB close to the computer and the receiver/transmitter close to the TV in the living room.)

If it is possible, is there a recommended maximum distance?

Or a way to amplify the signal, so it can be carried a longer way ?

Or even better to mount multiple receivers/transmitters so I can control different electronics in more than one room.

If it´s possible, what receiver/transmitter is used ?

Best regards
Kent

It shouldn't be an issue to de-solder the LEDs and mount them at the ends of wires.

I wouldn't recommend changing the circuit with extra/different transmitter/receiver components.

Thanks for the reply

Do you think it will be a problem if the wires are maybe 10-15 meter long?

Hi,

on the same subject, just to be sure and as there are 3 LEDs on this phidget, can you confirm me which led(s) is the receiver and which one(s) is the transmitter?

Thanks,
Jerome D.

There are two IR LEDs - these are for transmitting and are on either side of the receiver module, which is not a LED, but an IR sensor/demodulator.

The two standard IR leds is places in serial, so they can theoretical be uses in two rooms. (They must send the same signal – maybe two just to extend the length/strength of the IR light beam)

1) My problem is now to find a way to connect many(20 if possible) IR leds – so they can be places In different rooms. I need a circuit to deliver the power(I don’t think the Phidgets IR device can deliver enough power for more than the two standard IR leds ) for the many leds on the signal from the phidgets IR. Does anyone have any ideas?

2) I don´t know if it´s possible or how to connect several receivers to the device. (maybe just in parallel). Does anyone have any ideas?

Best regards

Hey Kent2011,

Did you ever figure this out?

I have the same requirement where I want to connect multiple IR transmitters to the 1055 so I can control multiple cameras.

#1. Did you figure this out?

#2. What brand/model/vender did you find new IR transmitter LEDs?

#3. Were you able to just link them all together in series?

#4. How many IR LEDs can you link together in series?

Thanks!
