I built an automatic Xylophone player using Phidget 0/16/16 and 12VDC Linear Push type Solenoids.

That's pretty neat. So the computer program has songs programmed into it?

Have you tried playing multiple tones at once? That would be neat. Also, if you put a small felt pad on the solenoids (or striking surface), you might get a slightly better tone.

Yes. The programs reads a sequence file and plays it. The delays between each storke is controlled by whitespaces in a file

Something like this
