The devices I had hooked up to the hub must have been occasionally drawing too much current because my problem was solved completely by adding a power supply to the hub. So read about phenq on my site, I was using the hub as bus-powered, and was having random all-device disconnects and reenumeration. Then I added a power supply to the hub and all of those problems went away. Maybe try attaching an external powered up to the SBC3 and move some of your devices to that hub.

Hi Maculin I'm getting lots of messages and disconnects like that too. Did you find out a solution?

Hey Kipperz:
Unfortunately, I never did discover the cause, or how to fix it. And while I would still like to know, the project is no longer required up at our cottage, so until I find a new project, it is a mute point.
That said, if anyone has any more ideas, please post them.

The solution a couple posts up (about using a powered USB hub) seemed promising; however, I did attempt to run it with no devices attached (other than, of course, the built in 8/8/8), and the problem still happened.

I may have found a slight lead:
I have had the SBC running on my desk (running the program) for a few weeks now, just to see if this would pop up again. I have been checking on it every few days.
This evening, when I checked on it, I noticed /var/log/kern.log was filling up with messages like this:

Code: Select all

May 12 06:44:11 phidgetsbc-2014 kernel: [2135247.340000] UBIFS assert failed in ubifs_release_budget at 568 (pid 247)

and this:

Code: Select all

May 14 00:24:16 phidgetsbc-2014 kernel: [2285252.480000] UBIFS assert failed in ubifs_budget_space at 465 (pid 1592)

These messages stood out, as they appear to actually be human readable, unlike most of the messages from my earlier huge dump from a log file. (Strangely, these messages in this exact form don't show up in my previous message. I suspect that has to do with updates that the SBC has gotten since then.)

From my research I have done to this point (which is quite limited at the moment), "UBIFS" seems to be the file system the SBC uses. So, perhaps a storage or configuration issue? (Totally just guessing)
Also, at this point, I cannot tell if this issue is the cause, or just another symptom.

And another thing I just found.
This may be quite telling.
Kern.log also contains huge numbers of these sorts of messages:

Code: Select all

May 12 12:07:16 phidgetsbc-2014 kernel: [2154632.410000] usb 1-1.5: reset full-speed USB device number 3 using ci_hdrc
May 12 12:09:21 phidgetsbc-2014 kernel: [2154756.970000] usb 1-1.5: reset full-speed USB device number 3 using ci_hdrc
May 12 12:13:27 phidgetsbc-2014 kernel: [2155002.930000] usb 1-1.5: reset full-speed USB device number 3 using ci_hdrc
May 12 12:18:04 phidgetsbc-2014 kernel: [2155280.390000] usb 1-1.5: reset full-speed USB device number 3 using ci_hdrc
May 12 12:21:10 phidgetsbc-2014 kernel: [2155465.980000] usb 1-1.5: reset full-speed USB device number 3 using ci_hdrc
May 12 12:21:46 phidgetsbc-2014 kernel: [2155502.880000] usb 1-1.5: reset full-speed USB device number 3 using ci_hdrc
May 12 12:22:53 phidgetsbc-2014 kernel: [2155569.770000] usb 1-1.5: reset full-speed USB device number 3 using ci_hdrc
May 12 12:25:58 phidgetsbc-2014 kernel: [2155754.210000] usb 1-1.5: reset full-speed USB device number 3 using ci_hdrc
May 12 12:28:03 phidgetsbc-2014 kernel: [2155879.220000] usb 1-1.5: reset full-speed USB device number 3 using ci_hdrc
May 12 12:31:41 phidgetsbc-2014 kernel: [2156097.460000] usb 1-1.5: reset full-speed USB device number 3 using ci_hdrc

They all seem to be for device #3.

Running lsusb gives this:

Code: Select all

root@phidgetsbc-2014:/var/log# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1a40:0201 Terminus Technology Inc. FE 2.1 7-port Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 06c2:0045 Phidgets Inc. (formerly GLAB) PhidgetInterface Kit 8-8-8
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 06c2:0036 Phidgets Inc. (formerly GLAB)

Device #3 seems to be the integrated 8/8/8 IO kit.
