Using a bike's speed to rotate a servo motor

Hallo

This is what i need to do.
I have a stationary bicycle which is fixed on a stand. The rear wheel is attached to a flywheel. I need for the speed of the rotation to operate a servo motor which will in turn rotate a dimmer switch for a number of lights.

I work on a mac

I have been told i need
3530 - Optical Rotary Encoder
1018 - PhidgetInterfaceKit 8/8/8 and
1066 - PhidgetAdvancedServo 1-Motor
and a servo motor. Beyond that I am stumped.

Can any one help please.
I would appreciate any input.

You will also need something to read the output of the Optical Encoder, such as the 1057 PhidgetEncoder HighSpeed, or 1047 PhidgetEncoder 4-input. I am not sure why you have the 1018 listed, but it is not able to read the encoder, if that's the reason.

What kind of lights are you trying to dim? If they are LEDs, you can consider using the 1031 PhidgetLED-64 instead of the servo and controller.

The lights are all run from a single dimmer operating 8 ballasts and 16 42 watt fluorescent bulbs, so leds will not be enough.

I dont know what to do with the software either.

Take a look at the Programming Resources link. There are some examples for both the PhidgetEncoder and the PhidgetServo, as well as a Getting Started Manual for Max/MSP. Those should help you get set-up and well on your way.
