Are you using a USB isolator? or a USB hub?
Do you have anything else plugged into USB?
What kind of machine is running your OS?

Do you see any USB related errors in the system log?

Also, what kind of motherboard do you have? Certain Asus chipsets have known issues with booting up with USB devices attached.

Hi all,

Thank you for your answers !

I am using a hub vint 6 :
https://www.gotronic.fr/art-module-hub- ... -27027.htm
this one.
I have others stuff plugged and @ startup there are no issues with them.
Thas why i think its a problem due to the phidget module.
I am running Ubuntu 16.04.
Do you see any USB related errors in the system log?
No in dmesg, i dont have any issue.
like if power was not arrinving to the module.
but the other ones (not phidget modules) i have are powered so thats strange.
Also, what kind of motherboard do you have? Certain Asus chipsets have known issues with booting up with USB devices attached.
yes its asus z720 or something like that.
but why other modules are ok ?

Thank you
François

Apologies I might have posted this inadvertently in another thread already.

Hi,

We are encountering exactly this problem.

We have a PC connected to a UPS. After the UPS dies (battery runs out after power loss) and the PC loses power, when power is restored, we need to physically unplug and plug the phidget hub (same USB port is ok) in order for it to be recognized.

This state does not seem to be reached if we just do a clean reboot. It only seems to happen after an "unexpected" power loss.

We have tried "udevadm trigger" and also unbind/bind the USB bus; even a "clean" reboot after power is restored does not do the trick. Have also tried cutting power to the PC completely ... to no avail.

Once the system enters this state after UPS power loss, only manual intervention seems to restore it.

Is the hub entering a funny state? Is there a software mechanism to send a restart command over a USB port somehow?

This is quite urgent, because we are shipping a system soon and we had counted on everything coming back up without manual intervention after power loss.

thanks, Doug

Just to follow up: if we use an external powered hub as a previous user has noted, we also achieve the result we want. However this adds an ugly layer of complexity to our system. Hoping for a software mechanism to trigger a USB power off or reset in Linux ...

It's a problem caused by slow rise time on 5V from USB. How many of these HUB0000s do you have?
