Communicatiing with the phidgets just as root?

Postby Stealthman » Sat Jun 11, 2011 9:33 am

Hi,

I hope this question hasn't been asked before:

short:
Phidgets just seem to work if I run the program as root.

longer:
I compiled the phidget driver (make install had to be done with sudo) and then tried to run some of the examples in the Java API. Nothing. However I thought "What the hell" and ran eclipse (my Java IDE) as root and bang! The examples worked out of the box.

As I really don't like permanently working as root, is there any way I can access them with my normal user account? Or is the communication with the phidgets just too low level?

I am running Linux Mint 10 - which is based upon Ubuntu 10.10.

Oh I have a phidget interface kit.

Thank you very much in advance!

You need to install the udev rule - have a look at the readme.

Thanks for your answer and sorry for doing this dumb mistake, I fell into the habit of thinking that all does files in most projectes merely contain the same (as it is with INSTALL) - I'll make sure to be better prepared next time around.
