Alsa fails when usb audio and usb webcam are attached

Postby rjfear » Wed Apr 13, 2011 1:20 am

I have an SBC2 with a standard USB Audio Adapter and WebCam. When both are connected ALSA can't seem to find the Audio Adapter. mpg123 fails, so does amixer. Is there a known fix or should I start modifying ALSA configuration files?

Have a look at the system log for USB messages. Also, try reducing the resolution and/or frame rate on your webcam and see if this helps. Do you have other USB devices attached as well?

The only two devices I have attached to USB ports are the Audio Adapter and the Webcam. After a fresh restore of the system, a fresh install of alsa with tools and utils and mpg123 the Audio Adapter works fine. As soon as the Webcam is inserted the adapter disappears.

I will dump off the logs and post them later today.

We can drop this issue, I can get it to work with a tweaked kernel but the cpu utilization while in playback is too large for my application. I'm shifting to plan B (put a PC in the box with it).

Thank you for the help. I do appreciate it.

I'd be interested in what you had to tweak in the Kernel.
