1040_0 - PhidgetGPS, removing magnetic part from antenna

Post by Marcus »

Is it possible to remove the magnetic part from the gps antenna, or does it have any function beside the ability to pin it on iron surfaces?

In the moment the antenna is disturbing the magnetometer of the "1043_0 - PhidgetSpatial Precision 0/0/3 High Resolution".

Kind wishes,

Marcus

The magnet only exists to attach the antenna to metal surfaces, so theoretically you should be able to use it without the magnet. I've never tried to take one apart, so I don't know how difficult it would be to remove without damaging the antenna.

The PhidgetGPS should work with any GPS antenna with a SMA connector on the end, so you may be able to find an antenna from another website that doesn't have a magnet inside it.

Thank's for your answer!

For your information:
I removed the silver stamp, leveraged out the magnet and stuck the stamp back on it.
Everything works still fine!

Kind wishes, Marcus
