Right mechanical placement to test a load cell (3133_0)

Postby amundsen » Mon Nov 05, 2012 5:45 am

Hello,

I have built a circuit to amplify the output of a shear load cell (Phidgets 3133_0).

At the moment I am just testing the sensor a bit with an homemade amplifying circuit and an Arduino board.

I am wondering if I am using it in the right conditions: althought it is meant to be screwed at its both ends, may I just put it on a table and press it ? Or should I put supports on both ends while leaving the center unsupported ?

Please see attached pictures.

Thank you in advance.

You want to have one end supported and the other end free hanging. The idea is you want to apply pressure to the free end as if you were trying to fold it in half.
