Protect 1048 board from overvoltage

Postby pdxjjb » Sat Oct 20, 2012 12:59 am

Hi, I bought a 1048 thermocouple sensor. There doesn't seem to be an "absolute maximum" rating like one might find with a chip, but in my application there is a risk that a failure or screw-up might put up to +-30 VDC across the thermocouple inputs.

Do I need to provide external components to protect the 1048 board? If so, can you make a recommendation? Would a couple of diodes to limit the overvoltage to about +- 0.6 help?

Thanks, love your products.

Here is the datasheet for the ADC chip used on the board. Refer to page 9 for the specs on voltage ranges.

30V would cause damage for sure.
