How many 1014 relay's can you connect to one computer?

Postby Laertes » Wed Aug 29, 2012 11:59 am

Hi,
Is there a max limit on how many 1014_2's you can connect to one PC?
Is it limited to the number of USB ports you have?

Can you connect 6 of them to one SBC2?

regards,

/Lars

A theoretical maximum of 127 devices may be connected (includes hubs) to a single computer at a time. That is a hard limit as laid out by the USB specifications. Now hub controller bandwidth will limit that but in general you should be able to connect a substantial number of devices to a single computer without much difficulty with one provision: You need to be able to power all the devices adequately. The hub will not likely be able to do it by itself so it is advisable to use externally powered USB hubs so that they do not draw significant power from the hub they are connected to.

Actually, 127 is per host controller. One of our customers has successfully attached over 300 Phidgets to a single computer.
