Phidgets Stepper Big Easy Driver + Arduino -Advice before

Postby navanod » Wed Aug 01, 2012 8:03 am

First time post so hello everyone:)
I just purchased 2 of your NEMA 17 Bipolar 5.18:1 stepper motor with gears (From NODNA in Germany)
http://www.phidgets.com/products.php?ca ... _id=3317_0

I was planning on using it with a big easy driver as I already have a few of them. It wasn't clear to me the relationship between the wiring pin descriptions between the 2 devices, can someone clarify this. My guess is that the following
A, -A
B, -B.....For the big easy driver which translates to
A, B
C, D?
I was a little concerned after forking out the money that this stepper wont really work with the big easy driver and found some another post where users where having problems with getting it to work at all and that the logical descriptions of pins didnt add up and or they had problems with micro stepping.
You can see the other post here
http://forum.sparkfun.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=30746
and you can see the specs for the big easy driver here
http://www.schmalzhaus.com/BigEasyDriver/index.html

I know that the Big Easy driver isn't a Phidgets product but I already spent more than enough time developing my stepper motor drivers ect and dont want to yet again re invent the wheel.

Anyway thanks for listening

from motor to board, you can wire it up as:

Motor -> Board
A -> A
B -> A-
C -> B
D -> B-

A and B are on the same coil and C and D are on the same coil. If the motor ends up rotating in the wrong direction than what you want, you can simply reverse C and D and it should be fine.
