1024 rfid reader / writer - newbie

Postby skireel » Wed Jan 28, 2015 5:00 pm

I am a green worm with this RFID thing. Just started fooling with this RFID kit. I have downloaded the Phidgets control panel and I can get to the RFID-Full control screen when I double click on under "devices". Once the 1024 is plugged into usb port I can toggle through the Antenna Enabled, LED Enabled, Output 0 and Output 1. I can also see the tag string and tag protocol of an EM4100 tag being read when in the proximity of the antenna. If I hook up an LED light to Output 0 or 1 and toggle (check) the respective box, the LED light comes on/off. What I want to experiment with is having and RFID tag read and this event trigger the LED light to come on. So tag read in proximity = light on and tag not in proximity = light off. I assume I need to write code for this? :?:

Yes, you will need to write code for this. You can have a look at some sample code in the language of your choice by clicking on "Quick Downloads" for a language in this list.

The sample code should show you which functions to use in order to accomplish what you want to do.

thanks for the info mparadis, I did as suggested and was successful at writing java code capable of controlling a relay on/off. The next question for you is this;
I would like to host the java code on a PCB that can control the phidget 1024. In essence, replacing the laptop. Is this possible and if so, any suggested PCBs?

The SBC would do the job:

You can upload your code to the SBC and run it directly on board. It has a USB hub to connect the other devices to.

thanks for the advice - Ijust ordered one. I am also going to try a Raspberry Pi. Has anyone run a phidget on one of these?

Phidgets run very well on the RPi. Note that it has very little USB power, so you will probably need an externally powered USB hub.

I am planning on running java on the RPi and will certainly look at the USB output - between the RPi and the 1073 - PhidgetSBC3/ which would do the best job? thanks for the heads up frodegill !!
