Movie playback using Phidgets

Postby loul@gmx.ch » Thu Nov 28, 2013 6:41 am

Hi!

I would like to play a movie with any program on Mac (quicktime, itunes, vlc, …) and to control the play and pause function by a Phidgets sensor (button, touch or distance sensor). My idea is that if you activate the sensor, the movie starts playing for 10 seconds, then stops again until the sensor is activated again.

I am usually using Phidgets with MaxMSP, but for this task I am not sure if it is the right choice.

How would you do that? Any experiences?

I would be greatful for hints. Thanks!

You could do this pretty easily controlling Quicktime Player via Applescript.

Yes, you could I supposed

Another way is to use Max with the external jit.gl.hap object which can play movies with reduced CPU usage. That worked quite well.

Thanks for answering.
