HIN1001 - Touch Wheel Phidget

Introduction

The HIN1001 is a Touch Wheel Phidget. You can use it in your projects to capture user input. There are four touch buttons and one fully-functional scroll wheel pad.

In this tutorial you will :

  • Connect your Phidget to your computer.
  • Learn about data collected from your Phidget.
  • Practice using your Phidget in a mini-project.

Hardware Setup

Using the Phidget

In order to connect your Touch Wheel Phidget to your computer you will need the following:

Connect Device


Connect your HIN1001 to your VINT Hub using the Phidget cable and connect your VINT Hub to your computer with the USB Cable.

When all components are connected, open the Phidget Control Panel on your computer and find the Touch Wheel Phidget entry.

Double-click on the Captive Touch entries to ensure the Phidget is connected. Leave these windows open for the next section.

Buttons

There are four individual buttons. The wheel can also act as a button.

Touch Wheel

The Touch Wheel returns a value between 0 and 1 indicating the position touched on the wheel. For example, in the image bellow, the purple circle indicates the location of a touch on the wheel. The value returned from that touch would be 0.75.



Mini-Project

Now that you have your HIN1001 connected and working, the next step is writing some code. Write a program in the language of your choice that outputs touch position on the buttons or scroll wheel. Your code should have the following flow:
