Another problem has cropped up with my old Text LCD with 0/8/8 interface kit, this time in connection with the Phidget webservice. I am running the webservice on a Windows 2000 machine, and accessing it using Python on a Ubuntu client. I have the Text LCD device connected to the W2K machine; the Phidget Control Panel shows both components of the device and can communicate with both.

Using openRemoteIP() on the client I can access the LCD component correctly. I can also access and use an Interface Kit 8/8/8 if I plug this into the server. However there seems to be no way I can access the Interface Kit on the back of the Text LCD even if that is the only thing my program tries to do. I can take code that works perfectly with the 8/8/8 Interface Kit, change only the serial number on the openRemoteIP call, and it fails on waitForAttach() with device not found.

The upshot of these issues seems to be that I should ignore the Interface Kit on the old style TextLCD module.

I thought it was worth reporting this problem in case others experience it.

Regards, Pete

Thanks for pointing this out - I've fixed the issue and the 0/8/8 will work over the webservice with the next Library release.

Excellent! What is the status of the Linux hosted webservice, in particular that on the 1070 SBC? I ask this because of the problems I was having accessing both halves under Linux - is the Linux webservice, including that on the 1070, able to circumvent this problem?

No, unfortunately the 0/8/8 will never work on Linux. I has to do with how it was originally designed as a USB device, and it was released back when we only supported Windows, and moving support for it to Linux/Mac proved to be problematic because they only allow one open handle to a device at a time.
