Hello!

I am trying to run some VB6 code that connects to a Phidget 1010. I needed Windows XP for the VB6 code, so I used Windows Virtual PC to create a virtual machine running XP (“XP Mode”). In this virtual machine, I can share USB devices from the main host. However, I can’t seem to identify where the Phidget lives on my host (it doesn’t show up anywhere in the Device Manager, and isn’t listed as one of my USB devices). Because of this, I can’t connect to it on my XP virtual machine, but I can connect on my host.

Can anyone tell me more about how the Phidget is identified by a Windows 7 PC? I would assume it would be recognized as a USB device or com port, but it’s not listed as either in the device manager. Anyone know of any way to get it to connect to a Windows XP virtual machine?

(note: I installed the 64 bit libraries on my Windows 7 host, and the 32 bit libraries on my XP VM; I can bring up the GUI in both, but the device only registers on the host)

Thanks!

You can't share Phidgets with you Virtual-PC host - this is a limitation of Microsoft's Virtual PC software.

You should be able the get VB6.0 working under Windows 7 - it will complain about compatibility issues, but it works fine for us here.

You can alternatively use Oracle Virtual Box and install Windows XP in that - this VM software is free, and supports Phidgets properly.
