Please help a software guy make sense out of that thing called electricity...

Any suggestion about what I could use to connect 6 wire stepper motors to the 1062 (4 motor phidget stepper)?
The motors are 5v 1A.
I was thinking of having the phidget and power supply nicely enclosed in a box and need the ability to plug and unplug the motors.
Would rj45 (cat5e connector) work? or is the 1A too much for it?
I assume cat5e cable is too wimpy for that 1A? Looking at an wire gauge table it looks like I would need an AWG-21 (1.2a) to be on the safe side?

I tried a short length (about 2 feet) of Cat5 to run from the 1062 controller to my stepper. That did not work. The stepper was behaving as if I had it wired wrong, and was not running smoothly at all.

I would recommend using Molex connectors. They have 6 pin connectors commonly used on desktop graphics cards but they would be suitable for this as well.
